Children can grow up right before our eyes and each child has unique
characteristics that develop over time. Because every child's growth and development is different, these recommendations for children's agricultural chores are not based on age.
By using these guidelines you can match up your child's growth and development with the requirements of different farm chores. Ideally children and teenagers will gain meaningful work experience with less risk of farm related disease or injury.
Is your child ready for farm chores?
Follow these steps and you will know whether your child is ready to do
the farm chore.
- Search below for the chore to be done.
- Review the "Adult Responsibilities" and take steps to make sure the work setting is safe.
- Read the "Main Hazards" to understand how the most serious injuries occur.
- Read through each question on the checklist to:
- evaluate your child's abilities
- learn about training and adult supervision
- Look at the picture of the chore being done safely.
- Let your child do the chore!
